It's so funny that all the same old school heads that turned their nose up at a psychedelic masterpiece like Magellan because it wasn't "electronic enough" were the same ones who bailed on the band in 2007 when they finally reached the sound they had been gunning for since 01 or so.
I'm about 99.9% certain that if you went up to Barber on 12/30/98 and played him The Great Abyss he'd weep with joy and throw the HAB in the friggin trash.
Two perfect sets of Biscuits. The first set showcasing the kind of sound that Biscuits kids disdained so heavily in the early 00s. The second set hitting more of the typical "Epic Show" type points.
Besides 7/5/01, this is incredibly the only time they paired Magellan and Floes, which is like saying you've eaten peanut butter & bananas your whole life and tried jelly twice in 2001 but they fit together too well and it freaked you out a little.
Sorry, I'm still laughing about somebody who sold their NYE 2001 tickets because of the 1st set of the 30th. It'd be even funnier if you saw the other 3 shows first and then got all butt hurt about the Biscuits aiming for the LSD crowd.
Triumph jam is the #1 highlight. Pirate Funk. Know about it.
Pygmy-> HAB Intro Fakeout-> Ladies is sweet too. Jams into the beginning of Ladies should always have the HAB Fakeout into the power chord intro instead of a limp funk jam into the first verse.

After a rock heavy, but solid first set, my friend and I sold our tickets to the next night's show at set break.
Not even 15 minutes into the second set, we were crying. The Svenghali is perhaps the best ever, with amazing drum fills by Sammy. I have yet to hear a KOTW that rivals this one. The segues are nearly flawless and this became the benchmark for Bisco performances. This set was so huge, that my friend and I rebought tickets to see the NYE's show. This is how blown away we were.
The highlight of the first set as far as I'm concerned is the Sound 1 >Floes with Jessica (allman bros) teases. I agree it may be a little overkill, and the Sound 1 isn't as clean as the Central Park version, but it still slices!

Great show. They waited this night for all participants to get in. No coat check, place was a bit cold. In the company of friends, and having a great time.
Entire first set had a great energy, peaking with the secoond Floes (overkill?).
Second set was even better. Svenghali, Triumph>KOTW>jam>Pygmy> DOTSPF> Pygmy> jam>Hot Air Fakeout>Ladies was remarkable. Some of my favorite Biscuits to that hour, and wonderful even today. Incredible. Ladies went oover the top, ad the energy in the room became so intense that it felt the room might spontaneously combust.
The remainder of the show was kind of like too much of a good thing. The band was clearly challenging themselves for endurance, but they'd done me in for the night. Excellent show.

This show is a fucking face melter. The 2nd set is easily one of my favorite sets they've done, and the 1st set is outerworldy as well. I really love the Ladies, especially the HAB fakeout that precedes it. And probably the best KOTW ever.

This svenghali, like the above writer said is definitely jungle, but its also the most ridiculous thing from this holiday run. It is up there with the night before's madness that was a MEMPHIS>crickets>shelby>crickets. Get the show, listen to svenghali and the entire second set (which is just as great) and you'll understand why this show is just as great as the others from this run.

I didn't think that any portion of the remaining New Years Run could top the performance I witnessed two nights before at the Palladium, but I was definately proven wrong after walking away from this show. The highlights include the jungle Svengali, (THE) Triumph, and the Pygmy>Sugar Plum>Pygmy Downtempo Jam. Ultimately, the second disc of this show still serves as one of my all time favorites.
